Day 2: San José – City Tour
Today set out to discover the famous monuments and secret sites of enigmatic San José, the charming capital of exotic Costa Rica. It’s a city packed with beautiful 19th and early 20th century architecture, from theatres to houses to museums, as well as traditional adobe structures that could be straight from a coffee plantation. This fascinating tour will peel back the layers and reveal the history and culture of San José, with your informative guide on hand to tell you everything you could wish to know about the city. Pass through some of the prettiest residential areas in the city, and visit the National Museum, one of the most important museums in Costa Rica. On Mondays, when the museum is closed, the tour heads to the equally fascinating Museum of Children, housed in an old prison, or to the science museum in La Salle. Next it’s the National Theatre, right at the heart of the city, before you join the crowd’s downtown in Democracy Square, the ‘Plaza de la Democracia’, to learn more about the city. Overnight stay in San José. (B)
Day 3: San José – Manuel Antonio National Park tour
After breakfast proceed for Manuel Antonio National Park tour. The pace of this adventure is determined by your abilities and interests, and the abundance of wildlife you want to observe (or learn about), all in its natural and breathtaking habitat. Watch sloths and numerous species of monkeys travelling through the tree canopy and hunting for nocturnal silky anteaters, and several types of non-poisonous snakes resting in the tropical rain forest, and listen to the songs of the various birds as they glide above you, curiously looking for adventure. See how many different kinds of flora and fauna you can spot just in the span of a 2 ½ hour nature hike. And whenever you are ready, stop and enjoy some local fresh fruits and refreshments as you pause to savour your adventure thus far. If you so desire, hike through the trails and enjoy unspoiled, un-crowded, pristine beaches after your guided educational adventure ends. Learn about the history of the Quepoa Indians and Costa Rica’s history in regard to this stunningly beautiful Manuel Antonio area, and come back with ideas as how to help to preserve this priceless ecosystem and national treasure for future generations. Overnight stay in San José. (B)
